July 19, 2008—On a hot, sticky, steamy day with temperatures well into the mid 90’s, the 2nd Annual Haddies Cup was held at Kean University feature 16 teams competing for both Women’s and Mixed title up for grabs we had a rare feat Spirit Eagles Women’s Alumni team and Mixed (Men and Women’s) team, earned titles in both division respectively.
Spirit Eagles Women I, our Alumni team, consisting of current college standouts performed tremendously and played well as a team. The Alumni team finished the tournament undefeated. They showed that they were the best women’s adult team at the event!
Player of the Tournament for the Women’s team was Christine Buszazak.
The Alumni team player were Jessica Garcia, Sacred Heart University; Ally Smith, Villanova; Christine Buszazak from Columbia University; Kathleen Leone, Captain of Montclair University; Hannah Weitzman, American University; Amanda Sawasky, Rutgers University; Victoria Sacco, Captain of Brown University; Melissa Casale, American University; Leah Kaplan from Dickson’s University and Theresa Burek, Monmouth University
In the Mixed division where both the men and women compete feature many ex international players and coaches with about 20 plus years of experience was coached by Marc Waldron. The team did not lose a match on the way to becoming the champion of the Mixed Division, Men members of the winning team included Gerald “Lefty” Bothello, Kesley Fuzzy” Stepenson, Leroy Mayers, Marc Waldron, Bobby Issar, Chris Low Kwan, and Vishal
