Bartley, Boyce and Buszczak Named County Players of the Year
Three Spirit Eagles players have been named County Players of the Year by the Star Ledger. Diana Bartley, a senior at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ was named Somerset County Player of the Year; Carly Boyce, a senior at Allentown High School in Allentown, NJ was named Monmouth County Player of the Year and Christine Buszczak of East Brunswick HS, East Brunswick, NJ was named Middlesex County Player of the Year.
Bartley anchored the Ridge Defense with 14 shutouts leading the school to a 19-4-1 record and its first sectional championship and first birth in the Group 3 final. The senior saved 231 of 245 shots, good for a 94.3 save percentage.
Boyce, a senior center-back, anchored the Allentown defense that allowed just 12 goals in 19 games. She also scored 12 goals and added 15 assists. Carly led her team to a 17-2 record and a 78-8-1 record over four seasons.
Buszczak, a forward, led East Brunswick to a 15-5 record with 13 goals and 14 assists and the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament championship. In the conference final, Christine assisted on both goals to help East Brunswick beat the defending champion, Sayreville, 2-1.
The entire Spirit Eagles family contratulates Diana, Carly and Christine and thank them for their commitment and wish them success in the future.

Star Ledger 2005 Field Hockey Honors
The Star Ledger today announced their 2005 Fall Field Hockey Honors. Spirit Eagles Field Hockey Group would like to contratulate everyone who was honored by the paper. Spirit Eagles is very well respresented in all categories...with 24 players receiving recognition from All-State to All-County.

Central NJ Coaches Association First Team All-Stars
The Central NJ Coaches Association named the First Teams All-Stars recently. Named to the first team were: Carly Boyce and Jordan Freese from Allentown HS, Kristin Volpe from Hopewell Valley HS, Katie Kirnan from The Hun School, Melissa Casale from Lawrence HS, Alice Murnen, Kelly Bruvik and Christa Goeke all from Stuart Country Day School.

Three Spirit Eagles Named to High School All-Region Teams
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association released the 2005 Penn Motto/NFHCA High School All-Region Teams. Selected to the Mid-Atlantic Region team were Carly Boyce, Allentown High School and Jordan Freese, Allentown High School. Selected to the North Region Team was Chantae Miller, Willamsville North High School, Willamsville, NY.

Spirit Eagles Blue wins Gold at National Hockey Festival!
The Spirit Eagles Blue Team captured the Gold Medal at the National Hockey Festival this past week with a record of 4-0-2. The Blue Team outdistanced the team from Hollywood, California by 2 points for the championship. Besides the Hollywood team, the other pool members were Storm Troopers, Del Val, Ohio Magic, Virginia Express and Windy City.
The Blue Team was led by Coach Alicia Fruscione. The players on the championship team were: Diana Bartley, GK from Ridge High School; Jessica Garcia, from Colts Neck High School; Marissa Waldemore, Brittany Gildea and Charlie Wagner from The Pingry School; Katrina Murray, Lindsey Natale and Tyler Willey from The Hun School; Liz Colicchio, Kelly Bruvick and Megan Fitzpatrick from Stuart Country Day School; Krista Fieselmann from Bridgewater-Raritan High School; Marissa Consolazio from Whippany Park High School; Kelsey O'Gorman from Nyack High School; and Christine Ring, GK from Kent Place School.
Contratulations to all the Spirit Eagles players who participated in the annual event.

Spirit Eagles U-19 Champions at Big Apple Memorial Day Tournament
On May 29, 2005, the U-19 Spirit Eagles team defeated the Mystx Surge 4-1 to complete an undefeated run to win the Champion's Crown in the U-19 Division of the Big Apple Memorial Day 6 vs 6 Two-Day Tournament held at DeWitt Clinton High School in New York City. This is the second time Spirit Eagles has won this event when in 2000, the Spirit Eagles team won the Adult Division.
Members of the championship team were: Diane Bartley (GK), Christine Buszscak, Erica Cullum, Haley Douds, Courtney Geddis, Kathleen Leone, Stephanie Loizeaux (GK), Alice Murnen and Katrina Murray. The coaches were Randy Christie, Meris Burton and Dennis Lallo.

Dennis Lallo has just announced a new addition to his team. On May 12, 2005, at 10:06am, wife Debbie delivered an 8lb 6oz baby boy. Nikko Kedo now joins his big brother, 6 year old Kito-Kami. Dennis reports that mother and baby are doing fine.

Leck, Haus and Sacco Selected as Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year
Three members of the Spirit Eagles Field Hockey Group were recently honored by their respective high schools. Lindsey Leck of Allentown High School, Lauren Haus of South Plainfield High School and Victoria Sacco of Madison High School were each selected by their schools to be honored as the Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. Awards were presented to each of them at a luncheon, held at Seton Hall University, on February 13, 2005 celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

Spirit Eagles Competes at the BIG APPLE International Indoor Tournament
Douds Awarded Most Promising Junior Player
Butera, Leck and Sacco Chosen for NY Ladies Indoor Team
This past weekend the U-19 Spirit Eagles Team White participated in the Big Apple International Indoor Tournament held at Riverbank State Park in New York City. This event is run by the Big Apple Hockey (BAHF) organization. Twenty women’s teams from as far away as Montreal, Canada as well as the US Women’s National Indoor team competed for the Big Apple trophy. Team White completed the weekend event with 2 wins and 2 losses against some of the best adult players in the Northeast and is now preparing for their trip to the National Indoor Tournament, which will be held March 4-6, 2005 in Virginia Beach, Va.
At the awards ceremony, the BAHF committee awarded the “Most Promising Junior (Youth) Award to Spirit Eagles team member Haley Douds from South Orange, NJ. This award is presented to the junior who exhibits the most potential at the indoor tournament. Douds, who lives in South Orange, NJ, is a junior at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ.
Also playing in the Big Apple Tournament for the NY Ladies were current Spirit Eagles members Alana Butera, Lindsey Leck and Victoria Sacco. Butera (Summit, NJ, Kent Place School, Leck (Clarksburg, NJ, Allentown HS) and Sacco (Madison, NJ, Madison HS), were selected to play with the NY Ladies adult team during tryouts this past December. Besides playing in NYC, these young ladies have traveled to indoor tournaments in Boston, Washington, DC and Canada.
Bobby Issar, Spirit Eagles, Head Coach from Old Bridge, NJ was extremely pleased with the performance of his team at this very prestigious indoor event. Coach Issar highlighted the strong effort of Alice Murnen, (Princeton, NJ Stuart Country Day). Issar stated, ”Alice is the type of player that makes things happen on the field. She has the potential to become a top-level player.”
Goalkeeper Stephanie Loizeaux, (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central Regional HS) also had a great weekend minding the net. Stephanie turned away many difficult shots by covering the net from post to post and managed to control the area in her circle.
Other members of the Spirit Eagles Team White were: Christine Ring, (Summit, NJ) and Erica Cullum (Morristown, NJ) from Kent Place School, Kathy Leone, and Christine Buszczak (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick HS),Kathleen Leone (east Brunswick ,NJ East Brunswick HS) Annie Edwards, (Chatham, NJ, Chatham HS), Kellyn Hepper, (Bernardsville, NJ, Bernards HS), MacKenzie Kersen, (Boonton Township, NJ, Mountain Lakes HS) and Courtney Geddis, (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial HS).
This is the 6TH year in a row that Spirit Eagles has entered a team in the Big Apple International Indoor Tournament.

NFHCA Announces Division I National Academic Squad 13 Former Spirit Eagles Honored
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced on February 18, 2005 the Division 1 National Academic Squad. In order to be recognized for this award, student-athletes must have received a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2004-2005 academic year. This year, 13 former Spirit Eagles players were honored.
The Spirit Eagles Field Hockey Group is proud of our former student-athletes and congratulates everyone for their commitment to the sport as well as the classroom.

Spirit Eagles Team Gains Entry into U.S. Field Hockey National Indoor Tournament
U16 Gold Finishes 2nd in 16 Team Qualifier
This past weekend the U16 Spirit Eagles Team Gold participated in the U. S. Field Hockey Association (USFHA) Qualifying Tournament held at Bridgewater, NJ. Sixteen teams competed in order to earn a berth and entrance to the USFHA National Indoor Tournament, which will be held in Richmond, VA on Easter weekend. Team Gold finished 2nd out of the 16 teams and is now preparing for their trip to Nationals.
Spirit Eagles U16 Gold had an awesome start winning five games in a row eventually losing in the finals. Co-Captain Christine Ring (GK) from Summit, NJ (Kent Place School) played a huge role in Team Gold’s success. Out of six games, Ring had four shutouts which was very impressive. Also on the defensive side was Rebecca (Becky) Misko from Morristown, NJ (Madison HS). Becky anchored the defense with solid tackles while creating offensive scoring opportunities with her creative passes.
Bobby Issar, Spirit Eagles Head Coach from Old Bridge, NJ also highlighted the strong effort of Co-aptain Corrine Raczek of Wayside, NJ (Ocean Township HS). Issar said, “There is no doubt that Corrine gets my vote for Team MVP. Corrine showed why she is one of New Jersey’s best indoor players at the U16 level. According to Coach Issar, if there was an “all tournament” team, Corrine would be the first one selected.
Other members of the team were Melissa Casale, Lawrenceville, NJ (Lawrence HS), Cori-Ann Cannarella, Boonton Township, NJ (Mountain Lakes HS), Vanessa Charlton, New Vernon, NJ adison HS), Leah Dungo, North Caldwell, NJ (Pingry), Bridget Nolan, Summit, NJ (Oak Knoll), and Taylor Sankovich, Short Hills, NJ (Pingry).
Of the eight NJ teams entered in the qualifier, Spirit Eagles led the field. In fact, only one other NJ team finished in the top six (Spirit USA finished 4th) which included members from the perennial field hockey powerhouse Eastern High School.
This is the 8th year in a row that teams needed to earn a berth to the National Indoor Tournament. During this period, Spirit Eagles teams have consistently won their pools while capturing the gold medals.

USA Field Hockey Selects 2005 National Squad, Junior National Squad, Training Squad
Six Former Spirit Eagles Field Hockey Group Players Chosen
USA Field Hockey just announced the selections for its 2005 Women's National Squad and
2005 Women’s Under-21squad following trials that were held at the USA Field Hockey
National Training Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
The Spirit Eagles Field Hockey Group was once again well represented with six former members selected to the elite national squads. Selected to the U.S. National Team are Robyn Kenney (Readington, NJ), returning from the 2004 team, Diana Nelson (Old Bridge, NJ/Northeastern University), and Kim Susko (Short Hills, NJ/Duke University) and a current member of the U.S. indoor team.
Selected to the U21 National Squad was Mary Fox (St. Louis, MO/University of Michigan). Kristina Gagliardi (Piscataway, NJ/Wake Forest University) was selected to the Elite Performance Training Squad, while Janine McMillin (East Brunswick, NJ/Monmouth University) was selected
to the USA Women’s Indoor Developmental Squad.
The national squad will begin training for the 2005 Rabobank Champions Challenge to be held July 8-16 in Virginia Beach while the U21 team will compete in the Junior Pan American Championships, March 16-27 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
“I am thrilled that so many players have been chosen from the Spirit Eagles Field Hockey Group”, said Bobby Issar, Head Coach. “This reaffirms my commitment to train the elite field hockey athlete”. Issar Selected for USA Women’s High Performance Coaching Pool
As announced by the United States Field Hockey Association, Robert “Bobby” Issar has been appointed to the USA Women’s High Performance Coaching Pool for 2005. Identified by the National Coaching Staff and approved by the High Performance Committee, this is the 10th onsecutive year that Issar has been selected as one of the top coaches in the United States.
As requested, Bobby will help train the Women’s National and Olympic Development teams in preparation for their upcoming competition.
“This is truly an honor for me to continue my 20+ year relationship with U.S. Field Hockey as a member and coach of the Men’s National Team as well as a High Performance Coach for the USA Women”. “It also gives me a chance to continue to grow as a coach working with the top thletes in the country.”
Bobby takes great pride in training the elite field hockey player. In fact, a few of Bobby’s former players from his Spirit Eagles Field Hockey Group are current or former members of the U.S. Women’s National Team.
